Jane Austen was born on 17 December 1775, in Steventon Village, Hampshire. He was one of eight children of a priest and grew up in a close family. He started writing as a teenager.
In 1801 the family moved to the bath. After Jane’s father’s death in 1805, her sister Cassandra and their mother moved several times and settled in Chawton, near Steventon. Jane’s brother Henry helped negotiate with a publisher. And his first novel, ‘Sense and Sensibility’, published in 1811.

Jane Austen’s first major novel was Sense and Sensibility, with the main character being two sisters. The first draft was written in 1795 and named after Eleanor and Marianne.
