To start with, you must have an idea for a story. Your plot should have a conflict or struggle. Your characters should be unique and dynamic. The structure of your account can be simple or complex. You should also choose the best writing technique for your story. After that, you can go to the next step – writing the first draft.

Characters should be dynamic and unique.

The best way to create a dynamic character is by creating one with a backstory. Creating characters with goals that help the story advance is also significant. These characters must also have flaws that make them exciting and human. Nothing is more riveting than reading about a character overcoming their weaknesses.

While creating characters, keep in mind the following criteria: each character must have a specific purpose in the story. Each character should learn from one another. The interaction between characters should push them to reconsider their beliefs and differences. Each character should have complementary skills to help them achieve more as a team.

The plot should be about a conflict or struggle.

The plot of a perfect story should involve a conflict or struggle between the main character and the antagonist. This can be an internal or external struggle. Internal conflicts involve the protagonist’s conflict with his or her own values. They are most often the result of a past conflict. This inner struggle is part of the plot and should be present before the character even opens the book’s first page. The protagonist will be forced to deal with this internal struggle throughout the story.

Conflicts expose the character’s true nature. When a character chooses between two competing views, their inner nature emerges. This pressure is a powerful way to make a character more likable.

    Writing the first draft.

When writing the first draft, focus on developing complex subplots, layered characters, nuanced relationships, symbolism, and foreshadowing climax. You should also constantly improve the prose of your story to eliminate any cliches or weak sentences. You should also weed out overused descriptions and unnecessary adverbs. Then, rewrite your account for a more polished version.

First drafts should be free of all stylistic and grammatical issues. You can see some examples of a good story in this essay database. It’s best to allow your characters’ feelings and inner dialogue to influence your account. Besides, a first draft should not interfere with the Second Draft. A first draft can help you discover the plot holes and character flaws you will need to fix in the revision process.

    Editing your story

Editing your story is an integral part of the writing process. A well-executed edit begins with a thorough re-read to make sure there are no errors that slip through. Pay close attention to word flow, key emotions, and the pacing of your plot—also, note inconsistencies, which can throw your entire narrative out of whack. A professional editor will look for consistency of voice, transitions, and flow, among other things. While editors are not grammar teachers, they are trained to identify inconsistencies and suggest ways to correct them.

The main goal of rewriting is to polish your story’s central idea. Rewriting your account should take longer than writing the first draft because you attempt to perfect its shape and main idea. After writing the first draft, you will better understand how your story is shaping up and be more able to make changes accordingly.

    Subtext

When writing fiction, the subtext is a critical part of the story. It can be used to convey emotions and drive the plot. It can also make the reader question their own opinions. As a writer, you must ensure that the subtext is carefully planned.

One way to use subtext is by making it evident in your character’s actions. For example, if your character is stressing out over a particular problem, his actions might convey their emotions. For instance, he may be frustrated if they throw the phone. Similarly, if a character sits in a chair smiling, that person might express affection.

    Creating a narrator

One of the most important aspects of writing a story is the narrator. The narrator must have the ability to replace the listener’s inner voice and make them believe in the story. Creating a character with strong emotions and a compelling voice is essential.

Narrators can be first-person or third-person. The first-person narrator places the reader at the scene. Third-person narration, on the other hand, places the reader at a distance from the narrator. This distance is sometimes desired for creative reasons.
