    Salary is the only part of the compensation that you will work through the government job.

    The federal government provides a wide range of benefits programs and family-friendly flexibility to meet your and your family’s needs.

    Here are some highlights. Look for additional information with links to spelled pages in the details below.

    • The health insurance program is a nationally recognized model that provides you with choice and flexibility in addition to substantial employer contributions to premiums. And you can pay your share of the paid as well as your out-of-pocket expenses with pre-tax dollars.
    • The vacation policy allows you to spend ample time caring for your personal, recreational, and healthcare needs and the ten paid holidays per year. You will collect 13 days of sick leave per year on holidays from 13 to 26, depending on your employment years.
    • To manage responsibilities outside of your work and increase your peace of mind while you are working. Federal agencies provide much family-friendly flexibility, including flexible work schedules, telework; Child care and elderly care resources; Acceptance information and incentive activities; Child support programs, Including flexible spending accounts for subsidies and dependent care; And employee support programs.

    Federal Employee Health Benefits Program (FHB):

    The government’s Health Benefits Program has approximately 180 health plan options across the United States, including consumer-driven healthcare and preferred provider network options.

    At least a dozen plan choices are available to each employee, allowing for a wide range of choices so that employees can choose the plan that best meets their individual healthcare needs.

    Although specific benefits vary between FHB plans, no one must set a waiting time or undergo a medical examination to enroll in their plan.

    Flexible Expenditure Account (FSA):

    FSAs allow employees to increase their disposable income because the amount they contribute is not subject to federal income, FICA, state or local income tax.

    The federal government provides both Health Care FSA and a Dependent Care FSA.

    Employees can use Health Care FSA, which is tax-exempt but not paid by any other source, including out-of-pocket expenses and benefits under their FHB plan.

    Some examples are toothless dental services, LASIK surgery, health plan discounts and co-payments and security.

    FSAs for dependent care are available to employees with dependent children or adult dependents to allow them to work when maintenance is needed.

    1. Holidays and vacations:

    Federal employees are entitled to at least 13 days of sick leave as well as 13 days of sick leave per year.

    Depending on the year of service, employees will earn 26 days of vacation per year.

    Besides, federal employees receive ten days of paid leave each year. This gives employees time to spend with their families and pursue their own interests and advocacy.

    2. Family-friendly flexibility:

    The federal government provides several programs to support workers’ needs for individual flexibility. 

    For example, flexible work schedules allow employees to adjust their working hours to take one day off each work period.

    Employees can enjoy six to six weekends! Also, the Federal Government’s Alternative Work Schedule (AWS) allows employees to choose specific arrival and departure times that are appropriate to their needs within their working days.

    Agencies are encouraged to provide qualified staff with the opportunity to telephone at least one day a week at home or remotely.

    Family-friendly leave policies provide flexibility for military leave, allow or provide flexibility for the family to take care of a sick family member in any illness or emergency.

    Also, while specific programs may vary, agencies provide Employee Support Programs (EAPs); Part-time and job-sharing positions; Resources for child and adult care, information and incentives for adoption and other child support services.

    3. Federal Employees Retirement Scheme (FERS):

    Your retirement benefits are based on your year of service and salary history.

    4. Thrift Savings Plan (TSP):

    With the Thrift Savings Plan’s help, you can self-direct your retirement savings program through multiple investment options. This plan is very similar to the 401 (k) plan.

    5. Social Security:

    You will receive a Social Security credit while working with the government. Social security provides your future retirement benefits, disability protection and survival benefits.

    6. Retirement:

    A new employee who has previously held a government job will be able to participate in the civil service retirement process.     7. Medicare – Part A:

    An Employee of Government job is automatically eligible for free Medicare Part A at the age of 65.

    8. Federal Employees Group Life Insurance (FEGLI):

    FEGLI is a term of group life insurance program. It consists of basic life insurance coverage and three options. 

    If you are a new federal employee, you will automatically be covered by Basic Life Insurance. If you do not waive the coverage, the office will deduct the premium from your salary. 

    In addition to the basics, there are three types of insurance that you can choose from. (Standard, Extra and Family). The program offers the opportunity to retain your coverage for the rest of your life.

    9. Long Term Care Insurance Program:

    As a new employee, you have the opportunity to apply for long-term care insurance under a federal program with minimal underwriting. 

    However, a limited number of medical conditions will prevent any new employee from being approved for coverage. Long-term care helps people with day-to-day activities if they have an ongoing illness or disability.
