DNA Testing to Establish Familial Relationship Between Full, Half or Unrelated Siblings

DNA tests have become very popular these days. People go for DNA testing for various reasons including, but not limited to discover the genetic relationship between two or more siblings with their parents. DNA test also help to determine whether the person is alienated or inherited.

AABB (the blood bank associated with American Association) observed in its annual reports that its accredited labs are carrying approximately 400,000 relationship tests on a daily basis. Some of these tests are not even reported.

A PaternityUSA sibling DNA test provides the most economical and easy to conduct DNA test. You can get yourself tested at Paternity USA with utmost confidentiality, trusted quality, and highly authentic results. The testing process here is very clear and simple and gets completed in as less as 4 simple steps.

How genetic testing helps in establishing relationship between two people?

A Sibling DNA testing helps to recognize whether the two people share full, half or no biological relationship with each other. In case, if we want to know whether the person is from the same parent then it is recommended for paternity or maternity test for the accurate results.

DNA sample collection is not always invasive and painful. Some of the widely used samples for DNA tests are:

    • earwax,
    • clippings of your finger or toenail,
    • your hair with attached roots,
    • and your toothbrush

Sometimes due to some unforeseen circumstances, we may doubt the relation that we share with our siblings. In such cases, a siblingship DNA test can be really useful and supportive. This test helps us in analyzing if we are share blood relations with both the parents, a single parent, or we are legally adopted.

Full siblings are the ones with same biological mother and father sharing 50% of their genes on an average. Half siblings are the ones having blood relations with any one biological parent sharing around 25% of their genes approximately. Cases where the child does not share any biological connection with both the parents are the ones that are unrelated and are usually adopted through legal processes.

As discussed above, half siblings share around 25% of the genes only. This may somewhat raise difficulties in accurate test results. It is because many times, the DNA of unconnected people is also a part of their test results and gives us a false estimate. Hence, a DNA testing for siblings should be carried out in the presence of at least one parent for confirmation of the results.

A DNA testing with siblings can be helpful for various reasons especially in legal matters and can be used as supportive evidence in the court to establish blood relations during the creation of will and property distribution. It is also useful when you have to fill out applications for immigration purpose.

There are some cases where these DNA tests may end up providing wrong results. This is most likely to happen in cases of half siblings. Our cousins from aunts and uncles could also provide similar gene matching percentage and can thus be unreliable under many circumstances.
