How Fast Can an Electric Scooter Go?

Electric scooters are a fun and convenient personal mobility option. They are a great way to get around if you live in a city or if you want an easy commute to and from work.

They plug into an outlet for charging and can give you a varying degree of range, which is most of the time suitable for every use case. These scooters are also very affordable, which make them a great option for those on a budget.

But can they really achieve a reasonable speed to transport you in an efficient manner? How fast can an electric scooter go? What are the factors that determine their speed? Well, these are some of the questions we’ll discuss in this blog.

How Fast Can an Electric Scooter Go?

Electric scooters typically travel between 15mph and 28mph on public roads.

Though they can easily travel at faster speeds such as 50-60mph too, but almost all scooters that you can buy today are limited to much lower speeds either due to safety reasons or due to speed limit regulations imposed by local, state and federal authorities.

One important thing to note is that the top speed of electric scooters can vary a lot.

For instance, the Nanrobot LS7+ is a powerful dual-motor electric scooter with 4800W power output and can easily reach speeds of 55mph. But it’s a premium scooter and costs upwards of $3,000.

A good portion of the affordable electric scooters that most people actually buy have top speeds between 15mph and 28mph.

For instance, the Hiley Lite is a budget electric scooter that costs just over $600. It’s powered by a single 400W motor and can manage a speed of just 16mph.

What Factors Determine the Speed of E-Scooters?

Electric scooters are just like regular scooters with a small motor attached to one wheel, or in some cases, two wheels. The motor is powered by the battery, and the speed is controlled by the throttle on the handlebar.

So, as you can guess, the size or power rating of the motor is the single biggest factor that determines the speed of an electric scooter. The more watts an electric scooter motor has, the faster it would be able to go.

Likewise, dual motor scooters like the Nanrobot LS7+ can go much faster than single motor scooters like the Hiley Lite.

However, the actual speed output is also impacted by a number of other factors – including the rider weight, the scooter weight, the gradient of the terrain, the wind conditions, and the voltage of the battery (more voltage translates to more speed and vice versa).

You can easily get cruising speeds on descents or flat roads than on upward inclines. Likewise, the less you weigh, the faster you’d be able to go.

    A Final Word

Electric scooters are a fun and convenient way to get around the city. They’re inexpensive, great for short trips, and can help reduce your carbon footprint.

If you’re thinking of buying one, you can head on to FuturaRide as the guys over there have a number of great options in all budget ranges.
