What You Should Do Before Selling Your House

When the time comes to sell your home, there’s a lot you can do to make sure someone snatches it up quickly (and at an excellent price). From increasing your curb appeal to decluttering every room, here’s what you should do before selling your house.

Up Your Curb Appeal

Even if we’ve all been taught to avoid this pitfall, buyers are infamous for judging books by their covers. If your house doesn’t look appealing when a potential buyer drives by, they probably won’t drop by at the open house. Take a little time to repaint your front door, mow your lawn, and plant some flowers, and buyers will clamor to look inside.

Hire a Great Agent

As tempting as it may be to avoid hiring an agent and keep a little more money for yourself, you’re probably shooting yourself in the foot. Agents know the best ways to maximize your selling price without spending thousands of dollars on repairs. Look for an agent that makes you feel comfortable and they’ll do everything they can to sell your home for top dollar.

Declutter, Declutter, Declutter

It doesn’t matter how nice your floor plan is if your house is chock-full of clutter. Buyers want to see open spaces, and excess clutter around your rooms makes areas feel a lot more claustrophobic than they actually are. Do a sweep of your home and remove anything that busies up your house—consider renting a temporary storage space to keep your stuff while you show your house.

Increase Your Property’s Value

You don’t need to modernize every room in your house to up the value. With a few simple upgrades, you can end up pocketing a much higher price for your home. Consider giving your hardware a makeover, especially if you’re working with mismatched cabinet knobs and crusty light switch covers.

Now that you know what you should do before selling your house, make a few tweaks and watch people fly in!
