You may have a home that looks impressive with spectacular pieces of furniture and a palette that all goes together. However, there is still something that bothers you—your carpet. A smelly carpet will not impress anyone, and it is the fastest way for guests to generalize that your home is not as clean as you want them to think.

Professional cleaners have the solution to help with your carpet dilemma, but they can only do so much. You need to maintain your carpet daily. But no need to fret; here are some tips for getting unpleasant odors out of your carpet so that you can have a fresh smelling carpet that’ll last for a long time.

    • Check for Spills or Dried Stains
    • Include Baking Soda
    • Use White Vinegar and Dish Soap
    • Using an Air Dehumidifier

Check for Spills or Dried Stains

Before doing anything, you need to treat your carpet correctly. Take care of the stains, spills, and blots first, as these things are most likely the cause of the smell. It’s best practice to remove these problems before proceeding further.

You can dab soap or carpet cleaning chemicals on the stains, inspect for any wetness that you need to dry off, and remember to always thoroughly clean up the liquids before they do more harm to your carpet. The last thing you want is to have carpet stains that are too far gone. If you can’t remove a stain on your own, you call a professional.

    Include Baking Soda

This product is an all-around remedy if you need to remove the smell on carpets, sofas, beds, and other fabrics. It is a natural absorbent that is readily available in your pantry.

You can use a liberal amount and sprinkle it over the carpet. Let it sit for an hour or two before you vacuum it thoroughly. Ensure that you don’t miss any areas and repeat the process as needed.

Use White Vinegar and Dish Soap

White vinegar can neutralize any smell in your home, from laundry to carpentry. Mixing it with dish soap will help improve the scent and make it more pleasant. Simply mix one part white vinegar, a few drops of dish soap, and two parts warm water. You can add more depending on the scent you prefer.

Spray this mixture on the carpet and leave it on for 15 to 30 minutes. Dry the carpet using a fan and an open window to speed up the drying process.

    Using an Air Dehumidifier

Sometimes, mold and mildew may cause your carpet to smell, and this is when you can use a dehumidifier. Excessive moisture in the air breeds bacteria and causes an unpleasant smell to develop.

So, one of the best tips for getting unpleasant odors out of your carpet is to incorporate a dehumidifier. It can remove a musty smell in your entire home, not just in your carpet. You’ll come out breathing better air and feeling better.

Keeping your carpet clean from debris, dust, stains, and grime requires commitment. Your carpet will look and smell brand new again with the necessary tools.
