How Does Low Testosterone Affect My Libido?

Libido

While it might seem embarrassing to discuss problems associated with our sexual health, it is important if we want to understand its benefits. When I thought about this, I thought of the benefits that the patient can get from the awareness created around this subject. Low libido refers to the lack of interest in sexual activities. This can be a result of many factors including low testosterone hormone in the body of the patient.

Testosterone is a male hormone produced by the testicles and it has several benefits to the body. These include sexual desire, fertility, bone health, and muscle mass in both men and women. Everyone has their definition of the ideal libido since there is no size-fit-all approach. This article will highlight all the effects of low testosterone on your libido.

Reduced Energy Levels

Testosterone hormone is vital for energizing the body and when it is in low quantities, it greatly impacts your libido. When someone is unable to maintain a certain workflow for a prolonged time frame, they are likely suffering from low testosterone. With the current hustle culture, most couples get home tired after a long stressful day at work, they are less likely to engage sexually.

A decrease in the level of testosterone can result in a decrease in the quality, or the length of sleep which can highly drain the body. When you have less than 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep, your body is filled with great energy that is good for your sexual health.

Low Self-esteem

Self-esteem is when someone showcases their confidence without fearing what other people may have to say about them. With low testosterone hormones, many people will shed off some lean muscle making them look thinner than before. This will always affect their self-esteem, affecting their social life and libido thereafter.

Similarly, a decrease in testosterone causes the tenderness of the male breasts that affects their confidence in general. Testosterone too helps with the growth of hair meaning that men will start experiencing hair loss and baldness way before they naturally do. Although some people embrace it, many fail to and bear the effects in their interactions with the opposite sex and fulfilling their desires.

Hot Flashes

In women, testosterone can also help the levels of sexual desire towards a normal male. Hot flashes are the sensations that women experience at night before, while, and after menstruation. This burning sensation can be destructive to women’s sexual desires as they mostly associate it with pain and grief. Typically, this feeling will be accompanied by a hot discharge which would mostly be a sign of menopause and old age.

Fewer Erections

While testosterone alone does not affect your erection, it is a big contributor to how well and often you can achieve a full erection. Low testosterone makes you fat especially in the abdomen area which restricts how often and how hard your erections can be. This greatly affects your libido and can result in anxiety when one fails to perform when needed.

Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety can result from several factors ranging from work, family, or even financial constraints. Testosterone hormone plays a major role in ensuring our minds are both energetic and active which translates to a more motivated state and a positive outlook on life. Low testosterone can cause a change in the physical characteristics of the patient and this change can result in a state of loneliness and shame.

This can lead to depression which can cause headaches, chronic body aches, and pain making the patient disinterested in things that brought them pleasure including sex. Patients of this nature would require more than just fixing the testosterone but also fixing their mental health to enable them to operate normally.

How to Increase Your Testosterone Hormone

There are several ways you can improve your testosterone hormone which translates to better sex drive and enjoyment. These include;

  • Consumption of healthy foods – Healthy foods are those that have not been processed but are consumed directly from the farm. They include; ginger, extra-virgin olive oil, leafy green vegetables, oysters, and sweet potatoes.
  • Avoid plastic – plastics contain a chemical known as bisphenol A (BPA) which inhibits the production of testosterone hormones in men. You should ditch all plastic material and avoid buying food pre-packaged in plastics but rather go for a glass of stainless steel.
  • Regular exercise – We encourage people to have a consistent 1-hour exercise to help stimulate their bodies and increase the production of testosterone. Whether you are looking to gain weight or lose stubborn fat, integrating resistance training can be the best way to go about it.
  • TRT – Testosterone replacement therapy is the treatment offered to patients with low testosterone hormone. It can be prescribed in the form of pellets, injections, patches, and gel.

Low libido is a result of many factors including lower levels of testosterone, in this manner, we would advise against self-diagnosis and encourage seeking expert’s advice. This problem is treatable and you should not feel embarrassed to seek help when you need it.
