A tripod is a three legged support for a camera or a mobile phone. It holds the camera firmly so it cannot vibrate and has no movement. A tripod has a lightweight feature so it can be easily carried. All pictorial tripods have three legged support and a mounting head to pair it with the camera. The tripod legs are constructed as a telescope so it is space efficient. Tripods are manufactured from carbon fiber, aluminum, steel, wood or plastic.

     Why You Need a Tripod

There are many needs of tripod some of them are listed below:

Tripods are usually used for photographic clearness as tripods prevent movement or vibration. Tripods are used to capture long disclosure images such as golden hour (sunrise) by opening the shutter for long time intervals regularly in minutes or hours. So tripods are used for such photographical shots which prevent you from using your hand for a long period of time which can cause you to capture blurry shots.

Tripod is also helpful to improve the quality by keeping the camera ISO low. The shutter time can be increased by using a tripod while shooting in low light. The lower the ISO is the less noise is produced.

For reducing the hand shaking problems, tripods are very helpful which overcomes the problem of holding a camera for capturing different pictures due to some major reasons like illness or diseases.

If you are using a heavy telephoto lens then it is necessary to use a tripod to balance the camera according to the view so that it can give better shots.

To capture HDR (high dynamic range) photography you have to take the shots in difficult lighting conditions in which there is high differentiation in between brighter and dark parts. In these you need to take many shots at different exposures, and then combine them together using software such as Photoshop. This takes more time to be arranged in a perfect way to get a better output. For these shots to be captured, the camera or mobile phone takes numerous times, so while holding the camera with your hands, there may be a movement caused by your hands which will damage the output result. To overcome this issue you’re going to need a tripod.

Factors to consider while buying a tripod

When you start searching for tripods you have to consider some elements while taking them. There are many options while you look for a tripod on online websites. Buying a tripod is an enormous experience. Let’s discuss the elements and recognize your needs:

     1: Weight rating

While purchasing a tripod the first thing you should make sure of is how much weight can the tripod carry? It is a major issue as at certain points the tripod can fall into pieces due to putting a heavy weight such as a heavy lens or resting your hand on it. In future you will add flash or a battery grip which will increase the weight on the tripod. To solve this problem you have to buy a tripod with at least 2 times more than the total weight of the camera or lens.

     2: Tripod legs

While selecting the tripod legs you have to deal with the height and the stability issue. The maximum height of the tripod leg is between section 3 and section 5. More the section means the higher the tripod is and less the stability is. So ensure that the section of tripod legs is between three and five to make it more stable.

     3: Tripod feet

Some of the advanced tripods allow replacing the tripod feet for some different conditions. Just screw out from the base of the tripod leg. For indoor and outdoor use there are different types of tripod feet made as for indoor rubber or plastic feet is made and for outdoor metal spikes are the best option.

     4: Tripod height

The height of the tripod must be according to your height because it will make you often bend to look at the viewfinder screen. As you attach the camera on the tripod you would have to see the viewfinder screen more often so the viewfinder should be at your eye level or else you would have to bend all the time which would be a more tiring experience.

     5: Tripod construction and weight

According to the weight the tripod should have less weight so it can be carried out easily on any journey. The lightest tripods are made of carbon fiber and tripods constructed with carbon fiber are more last-longing but are more expensive from the one made with aluminum. Tripods made from aluminum are cheaper but are heavier than carbon fiber. Tripods made with aluminum are more stable as they are heavier and aluminum tripods have good longevity.
